Ahead of the winter system forecast to bring widespread snow and mixed-precipitation across the Upper Midwest and Western Great Lakes Friday into Saturday, Delta has cancelled approximately 55 mainline and Delta Connection flights.

The airline's meteorologists are forecasting moderate snowfall to begin Friday afternoon into the evening in Minneapolis with the potential of 5-7 inches of snow accumulation. Delta's meteorologists are also keeping a close eye on Chicago, which is forecast to experience moderate snowfall Friday afternoon that will transition into mixed-precipitation that will result in 3-4 inches of accumulation.

The storm is expected to continue trekking east into the Southern Great Lakes and Northeast bringing moderate snow and freezing rain to the region Saturday. Customers can expect de-icing delays as a result.

In advance of the storm's projected path, the airline proactively issued three separate travel waivers. Delta's weather waiver for 14 cities in the Midwest remains in effect through Friday, while a waiver for the airline's Minneapolis hub and seven cities in the Northeast are active through Saturday.

The waivers allow customers with flexibility in their travel plans to make a one-time change to their itinerary without incurring a change fee.

Customers are encouraged to check their flight status on Delta.com or the Fly Delta Mobile App. Customers can also get updates sent directly to their mobile device or by email with One-Time Flight Notification.

Delta's Meteorology team is keeping an eye on a winter storm system that is expected to bring frozen and mixed precipitation to parts of the Midwest later this week. The airline's operations teams are not planning for any cancellations as the forecast model data comes in, though schedule adjustments remain a possibility as a result of inclement weather conditions.

Ahead of the storm, the airline proactively issued two separate travel waivers for Minneapolis and for 14 cities in the Midwest.
