BERLIN, June 23 (Reuters) - German energy provider E.ON says a decision by the government to trigger the "alarm stage" of a national emergency gas plan does not fundamentally change the status quo.

"We have prepared intensively for this situation, (and) are doing everything we can to keep the impact on customers as minor as possible," a company spokesperson said in an email to Reuters on Thursday.

However, the spokesperson warned that the price of gas on wholesale markets would rise even further if Russian imports were halted completely. (Reporting by Tom Kaeckenhoff, Writing by Rachel More Editing by Madeline Chambers)
