Eastland Insurance Company announced the appointment of two former top bureaucrats as independent directors are Hedayetullah Al Mamoon and Dr Md Abdul Karim. Mamoon, a member of the 1982 batch of the Civil Service Administration Cadre, served as a senior secretary of the Finance Division before retiring. With 34 years of experience in various senior positions within public services, he brings a wealth of expertise.

In 2018, he concluded his public service career. Following retirement, he assumed the role of chairman of the Bangladesh NGO Foundation, serving from June 2018 to June 2022. He also served as the member of the Planning Commission, secretary of Bangladesh Public Service Commission, director general of Department of Social Services (Ministry of Social Welfare), chairman of BRTC, managing director of WASA.

The other newly appointed independent director, Abdul Karim, previously held the position of principal secretary to the prime minister. He has extensive 43 years of experience in administration, foreign service, regulatory and revenue-related ministries and divisions, as well as the development and corporate sectors. Dr Karim is actively involved in various organisations, serving as the president of the Bangladesh Scouts Foundation, Bangladesh Chemical Society, Bangladesh Deaf Sports Federation, and Chittagong University Alumni Association.

Additionally, he holds the position of chairman of IPDC Finance Ltd. and is an advisory board member of the Asian University for Women (AUW), Chattogram. He also serves as the Secretary General of the Southeast Asian Cooperation (SEACO) Foundation, Dhaka. Dr. Karim has received the highest Scout Award of Bangladesh.
