EATON VANCE MASSACHUSETTS MUNICIPAL INCO 
By Eaton Vance Massachusetts Municipal Income Trust (AMEX:MMV) (the ?Trust?), a closed-end management investment company, today announced the earnings of the Trust for the three and six-month periods ended May 31, 2007. The Trust's fiscal year ends on November 30, 2007.
For the three months ended May 31, 2007, the Trust had net investment income of $612,529 ($0.226 per common share). From this amount, the Trust paid dividends on preferred shares of $184,667 (equal to $0.068 for each common share), resulting in net investment income after the preferred dividends of $427,862, or $0.158 per common share. The Trust's net investment income for the six months ended May 31, 2007 was $1,253,586 ($0.462 per common share, before deduction of the preferred share dividends totaling $0.131 per common share), resulting in net investment income after the preferred dividends of $0.331 per common share. In comparison, for the three months ended May 31, 2006, the Trust had net investment income of $639,340 ($0.235 per common share). From this amount, the Trust paid dividends on preferred shares of $165,374 (equal to $0.061 for each common share), resulting in net investment income after the preferred dividends of $473,966, or $0.174 per common share. The Trust's net investment income for the six months ended May 31, 2006 was $1,272,565 ($0.469 per common share, before deduction of the preferred share dividends totaling $0.114 per common share), resulting in net investment income after the preferred dividends of $0.355 per common share.
Net realized and unrealized losses for the three months ended May 31, 2007 were $1,218,251 ($0.448 per common share). The Trust's net realized and unrealized losses for the six months ended May 31, 2007 were $1,361,584 ($0.501 per common share). In comparison, net realized and unrealized losses for the three months ended May 31, 2006 were $668,938 ($0.248 per common share). The Trust's net realized and unrealized gains for the six months ended May 31, 2006 were $383,425 ($0.140 per common share).
On May 31, 2007, net assets of the Trust applicable to common shares were $42,543,034. The net asset value per common share on May 31, 2007 was $15.68 based on 2,714,063 common shares outstanding. In comparison, on May 31, 2006, net assets of the Trust applicable to common shares were $41,722,117. The net asset value per common share on May 31, 2006 was $15.37 based on 2,714,063 common shares outstanding.
