Elevance Health has lowered its earnings guidance, but raised its adjusted earnings outlook, for 2023.

The health insurer and healthcare-services provider, formerly known as Anthem, now expects earnings of $26.40 a share for 2023. The company said in July that it expected annual earnings of at least $29.09 a share.

Adjusted earnings, which strip out one-time items, are now forecast to be $33 a share, up from its prior outlook for at least $32.85 a share.

Based on its previous guidance, analysts surveyed by FactSet had been expecting adjusted earnings of $32.93 and standard earnings of $29.88 a share for the year.

Elevance said its revision is the result of "outperformance year-to-date."
