Investor Relations Newsletter - July 25, 2023 Edition
Total energy consumption rises 3.5% in June 2023.
Consumption in June 2023:consolidated free and captive electricity consumption (3,040.7 GWh) in Energisa Group's concessions rose by 3.5% compared with the same month last year. The sectors contributing most to the result in the month were residential, other, especially government authorities, and commercial, owing to the warmer weather and smaller basis, especially in the Northeast, major retailers and education network.
In the month, all our distribution companies reported higher energy consumption in their concession areas, led by ERO (10.5% or 29.8 GWh), EPB (5.4% or 22.3 GWh) and ESE (7.9% or 17.2 GWh). The residential sector (8.1% or
87.9 GWh) reported the highest consumption growth in the month, with EPB (11.1% or 19.4 GWh), ERO (12.3% or 15.1 GWh) and EMT (5.8% or 14.9 GWh) enjoying the largest increases. Residential consumption was primarily driven by the small basis in Jun/22, the warmer weather and longer calendar at ERO.
The sector Other experienced growth of 2.8% (10.7 GWh), with the highest growth at EMT (3.9% or 3.3 GWh), ERO (8.0% or 2.8 GWh) and EPB (3.2% or 2.1 GWh). The result in the 'other' category was driven by the public sector, led by the education network, and the resumption of in-person activities by government employees. The commercial
sector reported growth of 0.9% (4.9 GWh), with the concessions most impacting this result being: ERO (12.3% or 6.9 GWh), EPB (2.9% or 2.2 GWh) and ESE (3.3% or 1.5 GWh), led by food distributors.
The industrial sector saw consumption rise by 0.2% (1.2 GWh), with the result for the month being determined by the concessions of ESE (21.9% or 6.4 GWh), ERO (7.7% or
3.1 GWh) and ESS (1.4% or 1.6 GWh). ESE benefited from a booming oil and gas sector, ERO from food and ESS food and paper. Lastly, the rural sector contracted due to the concessions EMT (-3.7% or -3.9 GWh), EMR (-10.0% or -1.4 GWh) and ESS (-5.3% or -1.3 GWh), primarily due to distributed generation.
Consumption in the first 6 months of 2023:Energisa Group's captive and free electricity consumption (18,855.6 GWh) rose by 1.4% over the same period last year. The residential, industrial and government sectors reported the highest rises in the period, led by the food and metal sectors, with the longer calendar and warmer weather - especially in the north and north-east- also contributing factors. 7 out of 9 distribution companies reported growth in the six first months of the year, led by EPB (+5.1% or
- GWh), ETO (+5.4% or 91.1 GWh) and ERO (+5.9% or
- GWh).
