The free energy market has been growing annually in Brazil, closing 2019 with a volume of operations 6% higher than 2018 and turning over R$ 134 billion. This is a segment which already represents 30% of the country's total of power consumption, according to the Brazilian Energy Traders Association (Abraceel). However, the potential for this market is much greater. Specialists believe that many clients have still not joined this segment, viewing migration as both complex and bureaucratic or also because they are unaware of the advantages its offers: much greater choice, greater competitiveness, flexibility in negotiation and predictability of costs.

To offer companies an opportunity of migrating to the free market in a simplified way, without bureaucracy and with all the advantages that the retail model provides, ENGIE Brasil Energia, the largest private sector electric energy generator in Brazil, has launched the E-conomiza product. This is a solution designed especially for the small and middle market corporate consumer consuming up to 1MWm which is the minimum capacity for migration. E-conomiza offers the purchase of incentivized energy, also guaranteeing that the clients will be consuming energy from renewable sources.

'This is the ideal solution for companies without a team or structure internally for undertaking complicated energy management, and that want to reduce their electricity bills at the end of each month without the necessity of making investments', explains Chief Commercialization Officer at ENGIE Brasil Energia, Gabriel Mann dos Santos.

Advantages of migration to the free market

The migration from the captive market to the free contracting environment through the solution developed by ENGIE, can bring a series of advantages such as: security, a simplified contract, practicality and an estimated reduction in the monthly energy bill of 15%. E-conomiza eliminates the need for membership of the Electric Energy Trade Board (CCEE), since the entire operational process of migration and the management of the energy bill is undertaken by specialized professionals at EBE itself. All that is required of the client is to pay the distributor's bill for wire use and the cost of the energy to ENGIE.

'Our mission is to simplify the life of the entrepreneur. Should he not have the support of a consultancy or not know the rules for signing up to the free market, our specialists take the helm of the entire migration process, dealing with all the bureaucracy and the direct agreements with the CCEE, providing all the advice necessary', Gabriel explains.

A case of success

The first client of ENGIE's new solution is Softplan, a company operating for 29 years in the development of software used for corporate and public sector management purposes.

According to the Head of Property and Engineering at Softplan, Ciro Schmitt, the company had been looking for a solution with the best cost-benefit: 'The solution ENGIE was able to offer was perfect for what we needed. Without having to make new investments, we avoided all the bureaucracy of migration to the free market and the management of the account, at the same time succeeding in reducing our energy expenditures', he says.

With its head office in the state of Catarina, Softplan has nearly 2 thousand employees, is recognized as one of the largest software companies in Brazil and has been spearheading the digital transformation in the construction industry, the justice system and public sector management.
