WINONA, Minn. (AP) _ Fastenal Co. (FAST) on Tuesday reported third-quarter profit of $243.5 million.

On a per-share basis, the Winona, Minnesota-based company said it had net income of 42 cents.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 41 cents per share.

The maker of industrial and construction fasteners posted revenue of $1.55 billion in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.54 billion.
