Finnish state-controlled utility company Fortum Oyj said Friday that it has appointed Bernhard Gunther as chief financial officer as of Feb. 1.

Mr. Gunther, a German national, recently served as CFO and chief human resources officer of the renewables, network and retail company innogy SE, which was acquired by and merged into EON in 2020.

Prior to that, he served in various other senior leadership positions in the power and gas business, including CFO at the RWE Group. He is currently a member of both the supervisory board of Fortum's subsidiary Uniper SE as well as German technology company Thyssenkrupp AG.

Timo Karttinen, who has served as acting CFO since the summer, will continue in his previous senior position when Mr. Gunther joins in February.
