April 21, 2022 10:27 PM A goal by Toni Martinez decided the classic against Sporting and FC Porto is in the final of the Portuguese Cup

FC Porto qualified for the final of the Portuguese Cup after beating Sporting (1-0), this Thursday, in the second leg of the semi-finals of the competition. After winning 2-1 in Lisbon, the blue and whites beat the team from Lisbon again, this time with a single goal scored by Toni Martínez (82m). In the final, which will be played at Estádio do Jamor, FC Porto will be facing Tondela.

The first-half of this classic showed two teams matching each other and not allowing any dangerous situations close to the areas, except for a quick counterattack for FC Porto, missing the goal by only a few centimetres: Fábio Vieira passed forward to Mehdi Taremi and a precious rebound left the ball in Zaidu, but the left fullback, in front of Adán, missed the target (38m). As bad as it sounds, this was the only truly noteworthy in the first 45 minutes.

The second-half started with what was literally the only goal opportunity for Sporting in the entire match: Matheus Nunes came up in front of Marchesín, but couldn't beat the Argentinean goalkeeper, who opposed the shot of the midfielder in style (51m). In response, Fábio Vieira put Adán's reflexes to the test (57m) before Vitinha aimed for goal on two situations (58m and 72m). The tie seemed to be almost a certainty, but Toni Martínez had a different idea for the match: receiving a pass from Pepe, the Spanish forward controlled the ball and put the ball out of reach of Adán; the goal was disallowed by the assistant referee for an apparent offside.

Doing his job, the VAR warned Nuno Almeida that the goal was valid and Estádio do Dragão could finally jump in celebration with Toni Martínez's moment of inspiration (82m). The referee, who travelled from Algarve, still had to show a red card to Pedro Porro for a vicious tackle on Galeno (88m). Outnumbered, Sporting became even less dangerous and FC Porto managed the lead until the end of the match as they pleased, confirming the much desired final at Jamor, where they will face Tondela for the trophy.
