Godrej Consumer Products Ltd. said Tuesday that its first-quarter net profit fell 3.1% from a year earlier, due partly to weaker earnings from its Africa business.

The Indian consumer-goods company said net profit for the quarter ended June 30 declined to 3.95 billion Indian rupees ($52.6 million).

While segment profit grew for both its India and Indonesia businesses, the Africa business posted a loss on weaker revenue.

The group's first-quarter revenue declined 0.9% to INR23.27 billion.
