Open's FastLab®accelerates companies' digital initiatives Paris, 16 March 2017 - The digital services giants have created new technologies to accompany new uses. Companies must adapt to these technologies in order to remain competitive. However, making this adaptation a reality is often difficult. To help companies overcome the obstacles they face, Open, specialist in industrial and digital transformation, has developed FastLab®, a digital project acceleration programme. A pathway littered with of pitfalls: internal resistance, complexity of implementation, lack of skills…

When a company wants to develop a digital project from start to finish, it is more usual to talk in years than weeks. Most companies find that bringing a digital project to fruition is fraught with difficulty: solutions that are already obsolete or poorly-adapted to user needs when they finally reach the market, budgets exceeded, slowness of design, fear of change….

"These obstacles exist in every sector, for every size of company and organisational structure. Of course, there is more disruption in some activities than others: for example the media, for whom digitisation means a structural overhaul, and the banks, under pressure from their recently-arrived 100%-digital rivals", says Frédéric Sebag, co-chairman of Open.

Today the market demands fast change and agile methods, but also new skills that are still difficult to find. Nevertheless, digital culture and expertise are essential to produce the right product at the right moment, so that final users will adopt it.

FastLab®: 13 weeks are now sufficient to bring digital projects to fruition

Based on these observations, Open has brought together FastLab® (Conceptualistion, Prototyping) and Digital Factory® (Industrialisation) in a single toolbox. The objective? To deal with all the obstacles inherent in a successful digital transformation one by one: governance, resistance to change, ROI by involving all the stakeholders from the start, materialisation of the prototype and measurement of the product's impact after deployment.

FastLab® enables the development of a Minimum Viable Product (version zero, ready for industrialisation)

in less than 13 weeks.

Communiqué de Presse - Open - 16 Mars 2017

The programme brings together project teams and digital experts in a single workspace conducive to innovation and equipped with the latest technologies and infrastructure, and uses appropriate agile methods.

Using this shared foundation, Open offers two approaches depending on the needs of the company wishing to materialise a digital project:

  • incubate its teams in Open's FastLab, whose technological capacity is based on Open's Fast-IT platform (see box below);
  • create its own FastLab with Kynapse, Open's advisory agency specialising in Big Data and digital transformation, on the basis of a tried and tested programme: Define (adaptation to the client's context), Build (operational implementation) and Run (training of teams).

Already adopted by companies from the transport and banking industries to incubate their internal digital projects, the FastLab®programme is producing its first positive feedback. For example, as part of its digital transformation, Engie used the Kynapse programme to set up its digital studio in Paris.

A latest-generation technological platform to operate innovative web and mobile services reliably and easily

Open makes a technological platform available, "Fast-IT", whose services are directly accessible by clients as well as by its own ecosystem (particularly Open's solutions).

Also used as the basis of FastLab®and meeting DevOps pre-requisites, Open's technological platform can be used in cloud mode or rolled out with its own methodological practices.

In partnership with the INRIA and the IBM Bluemix solution, Open's technological platform provides a reduction in time-to-market, as well as maximum upgradability and technological sustainability, and supports multi-device access.
