Grupa Azoty to plant a Green Fence as part of its environmental efforts
Grupa Azoty is consistently pursuing projects designed to reduce carbon emissions, including through plant upgrades and change of production processes and technologies. Another environmental initiative will be the 'Green Fence' project to plant carbon absorbing plants on Grupa Azoty's fencing in Tarnów.
The project will transform some of the Company's fences into a 'Green Fence' capable of absorbing thousands of tonnes of carbon over a few years and producing life-giving oxygen instead. The planting will also help remove fine dust and impurities from the air.
Grupa Azoty invites all those interested to join the 'Green Fence' project. The start date is August 31st 2021, 2:00 pm, ul. Chemiczna (next to the goods entrance) in Tarnów.
It is believed that a large five-leaved ivy, occupying a mere half a square metre of land, is able to produce around 2,600 m2 of leafage during the vegetation period, more or less the same as seven lime trees with a crown diameter of 10 metres and much more than a century-old beech with a leafage of approximately 1,600 m2. A single such plant is enough to absorb up to 500 kg of carbon per year.[1] Thus, the planting will not only make Grupa Azoty's fence 'come into leaf', but will also help purify the air by reducing carbon and producing oxygen.
'In addition to strictly technological projects designed to reduce carbon emissions, Grupa Azoty launches initiatives such as the 'Green Fence', which have a direct impact on the immediate vicinity of our company. We attach great importance to pro-environmental initiatives, so I can now announce that in the near future we plan to implement further projects designed to protect the environment and turn Grupa Azoty's premisesgreen,' said Tomasz Hinc, President of the Management Board of Grupa Azoty S.A.
Importantly, plastics manufactured by Grupa Azoty will be indirectly used in the 'Green Fence' project. Tools that will be handed out to project participants will be delivered by Cellfast, Partner of the project, which uses the plastics manufactured by Grupa Azoty to make its products.
