Halma maintained its reputation as one of the most reliable dividend payers in the FTSE 100 despite a 9 per cent fall in half-year pre-tax profit to £96.3 million, with the UK its weakest region.

Shares in the maker of hazard detection and life protection products rose by 3.1 per cent, or 73p, to £24.23 after it lifted the half-time payout by 5 per cent to 6.87p, on track for its 42nd consecutive increase in the annual dividend.
