RE Cyber Attack Against Hoya Optical Labs of America, Inc.

(Tokyo April 26, 2021) Hoya Optical Labs of America, Inc. (Eyeglass Lens Division), a US-based subsidiary of Hoya Corporation recently experienced a cyber-attack. We quickly took action to contain it and contacted law enforcement in the United States. The company has engaged external experts to determine the nature and scope of this event. We identified the threat, which we believe has been confined to North America and did not impact other divisions of the company. Based on our investigation, which is ongoing, we have not identified an indication that this attack affected customer- related information in Japan or anywhere else outside North America. In addition, we are aware that the information and data acquired by the threat actors was recently published. External experts are investigating the content of this information and data.

Hoya Corporation takes data protection very seriously. We are implementing new processes and redoubling our efforts to secure all of our systems to protect employee information, customer data and our trade secrets. We are making utmost efforts to resolve the incident through coordination and cooperation with the relevant authorities in the United States.
