Huvis (CEO: Shin, You Dong, 079980), specializing in chemical and fiber materials, announced on the 3rd that the company had signed an MOU on eco-friendly fiber material production with Kumhofiber Industries (CEO: Kang, Seung-beom).
The MOU will allow Huvis and Kumhofiber Industries to collaborate on the production and marketing of Korea's first-ever LMF (low-melting fiber), recycled from domestic plastic waste, and incorporate a joint venture (JV) to support these efforts. To bolster its eco-friendly LMF lineup, claiming the highest share of the global market, Huvis vows to secure a stable supply of recycled raw materials from Kumhofiber Industries to further accelerate the drive for an eco-friendly fiber material business.
LMF is a high value-added material used for automotive interior/exterior components, sound absorption/insulation materials, filters, clothing (padded coats), and sleeping gear. It is designed to melt at a low temperature to provide bonding strength in substitution of chemical adhesives. Because it is safe for human health and the environment, its demand is steadily rising around the world. The two companies intend to use the recycled LMF lineup to build an effective virtuous resource circulation system for domestic plastic waste and proactively cater to demand for eco-friendly materials rising around the world.
Huvis, touted for its industry-leading technological prowess in industrial/domestic fiber applications, and Kumhofiber Industries, having expertise in the manufacture and processing of recycled raw materials, expect the MOU to provide the momentum to expand their presence in the eco-friendly material market in Korea. The market is currently dominated by recycled fiber for clothing, but the two companies aim to have it encompass recycled fiber for industrial applications as well.
A source at Huvis said, 'The MOU will enable the two parties to mutually complement and release recycled LMF products featuring industry-leading quality and stable availability,' and added, 'We will continue to expand our product lineup to encompass not just physically recycled products but also chemically recycled ones and take the initiative in ESG management by investing more in eco-friendly technology development as already demonstrated by ECOEN, a biodegradable fiber successfully commercially launched this year as well as our biodegradable recycled fiber, which combines biodegradability and recyclability.'
Meanwhile, Huvis signed an MOU on the promotion of the resource circulation ecosystem with the Jeollabuk-do Government, Jeollabuk-do Council for Sustainable Development, and the Korea Resource Circulation Service Agency (KORA) in August to spearhead public-private partnership for the implementation of an effective virtuous domestic resource circulation system.
