IBM announced on Monday that it intends to expand its cloud operations in Canada with the launch of a new multi-zone region (MZR) from Montreal, Quebec.

The U.S.-based technology group explains that its facility will consist of three availability zones, isolated locations within a data center or infrastructure, designed to help customers run their mission-critical workloads.

IBM - which already launched an 'MZR' region in Toronto in 2021 - explains that the project - which will be powered by 100% renewable electricity - will build on its existing data centers in Montreal.

This will be combined with access to its IBM Power Virtual Server suite, as well as cloud services from VMware and SAP.

The new Montreal MZR region is scheduled to open in the first half of 2025.
