United Living Group is committed to inspiring and educating young people about careers in the placemaking environment, ensuring that they are at the centre of the economic recovery and are given the opportunity to gain vital skills and experience, boosting their employment prospects.

One young man from Wolverhampton has been thriving during a national employment initiative delivered locally by United Living Property Services (ULPS), supporting the company's ongoing commitment to young people and inspiring a new generation of talent within the placemaking and infrastructure industry.

Ricky Hayer, 23, is partway through a six-month paid Kickstart placement as a Tenant Liaison Officer at our flagship multi-million-pound Heath Town regeneration project on behalf of Wolverhampton Homes.

The Heath Town regeneration project forms part of a broader 'Strategic Construction Partnership' (SCP) with ULPS delivering over GBP100 million worth of home improvements to properties across the City. Ricky, who lives close by Heath Town, has been engaged in several activities supporting the ULPS site team and helping to improve the community in which he lives.

Ricky's placement is part of a cohort of 75 Kickstart scheme employees into our business in varying paid roles, supporting young people aged 16-24 with over 46,000 hours of paid work experience.

Speaking about his experience, Ricky Hayer, said: 'The Kickstart Scheme position with United Living Group has allowed me to get a job working just around the corner from where I live and to learn new skills. Before working at United Living Group, my work experience was mainly limited to warehouse work, which was not my career of choice. I wanted to hone my skills in a more suitable work environment.

'For over ten years now, I have been a resident close to Heath Town, meaning I have seen its regeneration first hand. This, for me, is the greatest incentive for working on this project, as I'm giving back to the community, which has been a part of my life for many years. This job has also allowed me to have a more in-depth look at the Heath Town community, becoming a part of tenants' lives and making sure the wellbeing of tenants is a priority. For this, I am hugely grateful.'

Anthony Pennant, Community Development Manager at United Living Property Services, said: 'United Living Group is committed to helping unemployed young people find and prepare for work. The support we can offer young people on Kickstart placements will help give them the best possible start in their new roles, building the self-confidence, skills and experience they need to realise their goals'.

Recent data from the Office for National Statistics reveals that almost two-thirds of people who have lost their jobs since February 2020 have been under the age of 25.

Anthony Pennant, added: 'Ricky has been spending time on a number of our projects and with different team members to broaden his knowledge and experience of our industry.

'We are currently arranging for Ricky to spend time with our admin teams as he has expressed an interest in finance and computers. The team and I are really proud to be able to support Ricky through his work placement and are hopeful that through our guidance, Ricky can decide on a long-term career goal and use the skills he is gaining with us to great effect.'

As a member of the 5% Club, United Living Group is also committed to having apprentices, graduates and trainees make up at least 5% of the workforce in the next five years. Currently, we have 20 apprentices and 30-line management/senior apprentices, highlighting the fundamental importance we place on supporting the personal growth of our team.
