During the business premises trade fair, SIMI, which took place in Paris the 3rd, 4th and 5th December 2015, the first edition of the 'New Uses' Trophy was awarded. In the 'User Services' category, LUCIBEL and SOGEPROM were rewarded for their LiFi bi-directional broadband technology.

Thus a particularly innovative solution - an Internet connection using a light source - was rewarded by the jury! LiFi uses a modulated LED light source for transmitting the information (video, sound, geolocation) to a dedicated receiver for decoding on a computer or tablet. With this development from Lucibel, an intelligent and connected light source, until now available only in a uni-directional low bandwidth version, takes on a completely new dimension. After a very conclusive prototyping phase, Lucibel has decided to accelerate its production of LiFi lighting in its factory in Barentin (Normandy) with a view to launching the prodcut into the market during the third quarter of 2016.

Frédéric Granotier, the founding Chairman of Lucibel explained: « receiving such an award from the professionals in the business premises world is a superb recognition of both Lucibel's technological advance and of the huge potential that LiFi offers as a revolutionary means of accessing the Internet in the office environment ».

Sogeprom, the property development arm of Société Générale, has been an early adopter of the solution. It has equipped several conference rooms with this light-sourced Internet connection technology for use by its employees. The feed-back from them says it all - more mobility, more security and more connectivity!

This is not surprising because LiFi broadband offers significant advantages which will mean the technology is likely to be rapidly and widely accepted, advantages such as:

• a solution to the issues surrounding confidentiality - LiFi information remains confined within the defined, secured space (no risk of remote data hacking);
• an alternative to radio waves - potentially harmful to health;
• a solution to the problem of WiFi bandwidth saturation - LiFi allows having an optimal coverage level even with a large number of users.
