24-04-19

This consultation is provided by a dedicated multidisciplinary team that approaches these diseases in their multiple facets, in conformity with the latest national and international regulations, as well as good practice approved by the National Association of Doctors.

Hospital da Luz Guimarães has now available a Sleep Medicine consultation for the diagnosis, treatment and following-up of sleep disorders and diseases.

The latest scientific research indicates that there is a connexion between sleep disorders and certain diseases (such as the obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, a respiratory disease that can entail serious cardiovascular problems). Therefore, the Sleep Medicine consultation is coordinated by the specialties of Pulmonology (Maria José Guimarães) and Otorhinolaryngology (Fausto Fernandes), including professionals from other areas - among them, Anesthesiology, Cardiology, General Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery, Neurology, Dental Medicine, General and Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Psychology and Psychiatry -, as well as speech therapists and neurophysiology technicians.

At Hospital da Luz Guimarães, there are also available exams and therapies necessary for the diagnosis and following-up of sleep diseases - such as polysomnography (in lab diagnosis or diagnosis and therapeutics in ambulatory setting), sleep simplified polygraphy (levels III and IV), oximetry (level IV), adaptation of domiciliary ventilation (invasive and non-invasive) in lab setting with transcutaneous capnography, multiple sleep latency tests and induced sleep endoscopy. All patients that authorize it, can be remotely followed-up by telemonitoring.

For exams and consultations scheduling, use any of the channels available (app, site, reception desk or phone: 253 420 300).
