TORONTO (AP) _ Manulife Financial Corp. (MFC) on Wednesday reported second-quarter profit of $2.15 billion.

On a per-share basis, the Toronto-based company said it had profit of $1.08. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, were 68 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 62 cents per share.

The financial services company posted revenue of $21.02 billion in the period.

Manulife shares have increased almost 8% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $19.20, a climb of 42% in the last 12 months.
