After almost a year and a half, Hellabrunn Zoo is finally nearing a return to normal operations: The animal houses, including the Jungle World, Jungle Pavilion, Rhino House, the aquarium and the World of Small Monkeys are now allowed to reopen to visitors. From 6 September 2021, the 3G rule will apply to the entire zoo. This means that animal lovers will now be able to visit the zoo without have to pre-book a slot online, provided they present either proof of Covid-19 vaccination, recovery or test at the entrance. Children under six years and schoolchildren who are regularly tested as a requirement for school attendance are exempt from the 3G rule and will be given the same access as people who have been tested.

In addition, day tickets and annual tickets can once again be purchased at the zoo's ticket offices.

Advance booking online via München Ticket is no longer required. Tickets that have already been booked will of course remain valid. But visitors will still be required to register via the app or fill out a form at the ticket office to fulfil contact tracing requirements.

'I am very pleased that we can take another step towards normality, just in time for the last week of summer holidays, and that it is finally possible to visit Hellabrunn spontaneously again, without having to book online,' said Verena Dietl, chair of the supervisory board and mayor. 'The animal houses have been closed to visitors since the beginning of the pandemic. The fact that they can now reopen under the given conditions will really enrich our visitor experience.'

Zoo director Rasem Baban said: 'We are very grateful that, thanks to the 3G rule, we once again have the opportunity to offer our visitors smooth access to our animal houses and the Species Conservation Centre.' Verena Dietl adds: 'We would like to thank all our visitors for their patience and understanding, especially those who may at times have been a little disappointed with the access restrictions during the last few weeks or who have had to postpone their visit for various reasons. As an important educational, cultural and recreational facility, it is important to us that the zoo in Munich is easily accessible for all citizens. Thanks to the new regulations, we are a big step closer to that.'

Naturally, the current AHA rule (Hands Face Space) still applies. Visitors are still required to wear a medical or FFP2 mask, especially in the animal houses and the ticket office areas, as well as in all indoor areas. Compliance with the mask requirement will be regularly checked. The zoo is not yet able to offer keeper talks, feedings or children's birthdays. However, guided tours are once again available under the condition that the aforementioned rules are observed. Further information will soon be available on the Hellabrunn Zoo website.
