Greece - The first round of educational initiative on sustainability, undertaken by MYTILINEOS in cooperation with CSR HELLAS, was successfully completed with the company participating as a key member for more than 10 years now.

MYTILINEOS' expectation is to enhance its basic suppliers Corporate Social Responsibility level of maturity and integration by adopting the 10 Principles of UN Global Compact.

More than 40 key suppliers of MYTILINEOS across all its business units participated in a series of four 2-hour training Webinars held from 16 to 25 June.

The participating companies with a high representation level, had the opportunity to get informed about the initiatives elaborated by MYTILINEOS in the context of sustainable development management; one of those initiatives is the responsible management of the supply chain. Trainees were able to understand the multifaceted challenges the world is facing in relation to sustainability, affecting enterprises and impacting on their viability.

Moreover, they were informed about the European Commission initiatives so that Europe could become the first carbon neutral continent by 2050 and decisively contribute to the attainment of the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

Training became the first substantial step towards creating a responsible supply chain of MYTILINEOS, capable of integrating basic Principles into the suppliers' business strategy; such Principles are human rights, working conditions, environmental protection and fight against fraud which become increasingly topical, due to the pandemic outbreak impact on entrepreneurship and economic activity.

On behalf of MYTILINEOS, the Sustainable Development Manager, Mr. Georgios Galanis stated the following: 'We are particularly satisfied from our key suppliers' response to our new initiative and we believe that by strengthening our cooperation we could further shield our businesses, creating economic, social and environmental added value. We aim at producing a multiple positive footprint that stretches beyond the limits of our activity, reinforcing our supply chain maturity level, to the highest possible hierarchy of representation, for the understanding of matters pertaining to CSR and Sustainable Development. Our strategic orientation for a responsible and sustainable operation is underpinned on our suppliers who lie at the heart of our planning and efforts; supporting them is part of our responsibility.'

On behalf of CSR HELLAS, the person in charge of Network Development and member of CSR Europe BoD, Mr. Alexandros Kostopoulos said the following: 'It is very important for large enterprises being committed to the CSR principles to undertake initiatives to broaden the sustainability approach incorporating the supply chain. The small and medium-sized enterprises need to be supported in order to embark on their own sustainability journey; in this respect, CSR HELLAS and MYTILINEOS priorities to this direction are fully identical setting a very positive example of cooperation between the enterprises to boost the importance Corporate Social Responsibility strategy aimed at achieving a sustainable business operation'.

MYTILINEOS commitment under this new initiative is to stand by its suppliers, by continuously offering training in order to support and inspire them carve their own path of sustainability within an environment that increasingly requires higher adaptability and elevated alertness.
