The objections of the Red de Wieringermeer Foundation to the construction of a new Microsoft data center have been rejected by the court. The data center will be located on the Agriport industrial estate in Middenmeer.

The foundation maintained that the data center should not be located there because it would threaten the Natura 2000-area Dunes Den Helder-Callantsoog.

Initially, the decision was due at the end of January, but it was delayed by a month.

The main reason for the rejection is procedural: the Natura 2000 area that the foundation cited as the reason for the invalidation of the building permit is not within their area of operations.

There are more than 350,000 companies and agencies in the Netherlands that use the Microsoft data center in the Netherlands.
