Solange Ribeiro is the first woman to chair the ONS Board of Directors

The National Electric System Operator (ONS) held on Wednesday (10/5), the 11th Extraordinary Meeting of the Board of Directors. At the time, the Vice President of Regulation, Institutional and Sustainability of Neoenergia, Solange Ribeiro, was elected to occupy the presidency of the Board of Directors of the Operator for the period 2023-2024. She is the first woman to hold the top post on the ONS Board, which will soon be 25 years old.

For the vice presidency, the chosen one was Ramon Sade Haddad, who is also vice president at State Grid Brazil Holding. The two executives were elected in a unanimous vote and have one-year terms and can be reappointed.

Solange Ribeiro, who until then was vice-president of the Board of Directors of the ONS, is an electrical engineer from the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), has a master's degree from PUC-Rio and is one of the representatives of the Consumption category on the Operator's Board of Directors. She is also vice chair of the United Nations Global Compact Board. Between 2012 and 2017, he was president of Neoenergia, a company he joined in 2004. He is the member of the Board of Directors of several companies of the Neoenergia Group. He has deep knowledge of the electricity sector and has been active in promoting a more sustainable and inclusive agenda, which aims to accelerate climate ambition through the energy transition.

Ramon Sade Haddad is one of the representatives of the Transport category on the ONS Board of Directors. He is currently vice president of State Grid Brazil Holding, where he has worked since 2011. In his career, he worked for 17 years at CEMIG and held several senior management positions in Electric Power Transmission concessionaires, having become Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of some. In parallel, he is also CEO and member of the Board of Directors of 18 electric power transmission concessionaires. Graduated in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), he has a postgraduate degree in Electrical Power Systems from PUC-MG and in Project Management with PMI methodology.

The Board of Directors of the National Electric System Operator is composed of 34 directors, members and alternates, indicated by the categories Production (10), Transport (8) and Consumption (10), as well as two representatives of the Ministry of Mines and Energy - MME, two representatives appointed by the president of the Energy Research Company - EPE and two representatives of civil society, appointed by the ONS Board of Directors.
