In honor of their 30 anniversary, the UK-based FORCE Cancer Charity helped fund the Royal Devon and Exeter (RD&E) Hospital's purchase of a PINPOINT Endoscopic Fluorescence Imaging System. FORCE, a charity that believes anyone affected by cancer deserves the best possible treatment, donated the system with the intent to help surgeons save lives, reduce unnecessary treatment and cut hospital costs.

RD&E recently utilized PINPOINT in its very first case with remarkable success. The hospital's PINPOINT Lead Dr. Michael Hannemann performed the inaugural cancer surgery using the device and said that without PINPOINT, the procedure may have run into complications.

76-year-old Marion Lane, the patient who underwent the minimally invasive procedure, also enjoyed a relatively easy recovery.

'The technology is amazing. I can't believe how well I've felt. Thanks to PINPOINT, [Dr. Hannemann] was sure he got everything out,' said Marion. Dr. Hannemann added that the use of PINPOINT spared Marion additional treatment that she would have otherwise required.

RD&E plans to use PINPOINT in at least 80 operations per year and will also begin utilizing the device in other types of procedures.
