Financial services provider switches production environment to 4-color inkjet printing utilizing the Océ ColorStream 3500

Venlo, The Netherlands, 24 February 2012 - Océ, an international leader in digital document management and delivery, today announced that Landesbank Baden-Württemberg (LBBW), the Baden-Württemberg State Bank and one of the first German companies in the financial services sector, has invested in two Océ ColorStream® 3500 as a twin system.

From digital black & white to color printing

LBBW, a universal and international business bank, is one of the largest German credit institutes. Together with its regional customer banks, it offers all of the forms of business expected from a large modern bank. LBBW has now successfully switched over its production printing from black & white to color. Its in-house printing center produces around 60 million pages a year of transaction printing - account statements, account information, mail shots, campaigns and correspondence.

"With the acquisition of the Océ ColorStream 3500 we now have a range of attractive ways to design our documents. Our White Paper solution lets us achieve significantly higher efficiency and output in production. By lowering the consumption of materials and energy, we have also taken the principle of sustainability into account," explains Wolfgang Nickel, Manager of the Output Management Services Group at LBBW. "With end-to-end digital production we can now realize a substantially higher proportion of color elements and thus generate decisive added value for our customers."

30 years of good cooperation

A plain paper solution can now be realized utilizing the Océ ColorStream 3500, the Océ SRA® MP controller technology and Océ PRISMA®production. LBBW simultaneously invested in new Kern insertion equipment, thus taking the opportunity to switch over the entire production environment at a stroke. "As well as the outstanding functionality and flexibility of the printing system, the decisive factor in our investment was the almost 30 years of good cooperation with Océ," notes Mr. Nickel.

"Today, LBBW produces its transaction documents completely digitally and in full color on the Océ ColorStream 3500 without any conventional preproduction," says Sebastian Landesberger, Executive Vice President, Océ Production Printing. "This gives LBBW a real competitive edge in process innovation and document creation since the company can now react even faster and more flexible to market demands."

Variable personalization for TransPromo and direct mailing

The powerful and modularly expandable Océ PRISMA Workflow Suite ensures efficient and reliable workflow management from the preprinting stage through to postprocessing. Implementation of new and sophisticated applications in existing workflows, for example variable personalization of TransPromo and direct mailing documents, can be very easily implemented.

"We're delighted that our many years of cooperation with LBBW continues to bear fruit and that a renowned bank is opening up new and profitable markets utilizing digital full-color printing from Océ," comments Michael Krebs, Member of the Board of Océ Germany and responsible for the business division Production Printing. "The Océ ColorStream 3500 is the most innovative system on the market, meeting customer requirements for complex color solutions and flexible needs-oriented utilization."

Inkjet-based Océ ColorStream 3500 for both transaction and TransPromo
The Océ ColorStream 3500 inkjet printing system was unveiled at Canon Expo in Tokyo in November 2010. The high-speed, high-quality full color inkjet printer runs at 1,010 A4-size impressions per minute and simplifies the transition from monochrome to full-color or even five or six colors. It offers productivity and flexibility for high-speed color and monochrome production of transaction, TransPromo, direct mail, book and manual applications. Industry-leading reliability, print quality and media range are testament to Océ DigiDot® multilevel dot modulation technology.

Enhanced usability and productivity is made possible by a combination of unique features: HeadSafe technology helps prevent nozzle clogging and minimizes lengthy purging processes. The ability to transition between monochrome-only and full-color printing promotes higher uptime and productivity levels. Using passive RFID technology, the Océ InkSafe feature monitors both the proper placement of the ink containers in the press and the ink's shelf life. The Océ ColorStream 3500 inkjet printing system provides consistent high-quality printing during the ramp-up acceleration, full-production speed, and the ramp-down deceleration phases. Utilizing the entire production time decreases turn-around time and minimizes waste.

Smooth processing of resources with varying resolution

The Océ ColorStream 3500 inkjet printing system provides a modular offering in various single and twin configurations as known from the  Océ VarioStream® family. A full-color Océ ColorStream 3500 system can be set up as a monochrome-only system when needed. The production and media flexibility contributes to a future-proof solution that simplifies the transition of applications and business models to more sophisticated documents with variable personalization and smarter communication in color.

The Océ SRA MP controller easily handles the continuous data processing needed for high-performance full-color printing and also permits seamless integration into existing workflows. The Advanced Multi-Resolution Mode of the innovative Océ SRA MP controller technology ensures that data with different resolutions can be processed without problems. A decisive advantage, since LBBW generally uses resources in 240 dpi but at the same time also uses graphics in 600 dpi that must be interpolated before output.
