THOMASVILLE, N.C. (AP) _ Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. (ODFL) on Tuesday reported third-quarter profit of $201.9 million.

The Thomasville, North Carolina-based company said it had profit of $1.71 per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.51 per share.

The trucking company posted revenue of $1.06 billion in the period, also beating Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.05 billion.

Old Dominion shares have risen 57% since the beginning of the year. The stock has risen 62% in the last 12 months.
