? New graduates will help alleviate the manpower needs of the healthcare profession in Singapore
Singapore, 2 November 2011 - Parkway College of Nursing and Allied Health ("Parkway College"), today celebrated the graduation of 135 students at the college's inaugural graduation ceremony. Minister of State for Health Dr Amy Khor graced the event as Guest- of-Honour.Of the 135 graduates, 111 will go on to be clinical professionals, with 86 achieving a Diploma in Nursing, 12 with an Advanced Diploma in Critical Care Nursing, and 13 with an Advanced Diploma in Perioperative Care Nursing. The remaining 24 graduated with Diplomas in Healthcare Management and Graduate Diplomas in Healthcare Management.
Mrs Nellie Tang, Chief Executive Officer of Parkway College, said, "We have strived to establish Parkway College as a world-class institute of education since its inception. We hope that the graduates have benefitted from theory, clinical attachments and some simulation training programmes which will help them improve their communication skills, encourage teamwork and manage crises. I am very proud to see our first group of students receiving their hard-earned diplomas."
This new batch of graduates from Parkway College will support
the need for qualified healthcare professionals in Singapore.
Nursing Diploma graduates will join Mount Elizabeth Hospital,
Gleneagles Hospital, Parkway East Hospital, and the upcoming
Parkway Novena Hospital where they will add to the Group's
existing pool of more than 1,400 nurses. Some of them will
rejoin the public institutions such as the Institute of
Mental Health. Advanced Diploma graduates in Critical Care
Nursing and Perioperative Care Nursing will rejoin the
Singapore hospitals under the Parkway Pantai Group.
Parkway College currently has a total enrolment of 539
students, and plans are in place to increase the number of
courses to include Certificate for Aged Care and Advanced
Diplomas in Medical and Surgical Nursing.
Parkway College is the first private institution to offer a
diploma in nursing accredited by the Singapore Nursing Board.
The institution was one of the first few to be awarded the
EduTrust Mark by the Council of Private Education in
2010.
