Sber has started the construction of a major regional data center in the special economic zone in Balakovo, Russia. The site was opened by the Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Mishustin and Deputy Chairman of the Sberbank Executive Board Stanislav Kuznetsov.

Sber will apply its unique technology while building the data center: outside-air-based intelligent cooling system and a load management system designed to minimize power consumption. Their combined use will result in a 30% decrease in power consumption without sacrificing its resilience, which will in turn slash the facility's carbon footprint and benefit the local environment.

The construction of the data center in Balakovo has started today. Undoubtedly, this is an outstanding investment project, both for Sber and Saratov Region. This data center is the first stage of the countrywide program stipulating the construction of a regional network of the bank's data centers. I am sure that this project will contribute to the development of the region as well as human capital, creating up to 200 new jobs. In my opinion, this is a great example of how, when combined, the efforts of authorities and businesses in attaining national goals result in synergy.

Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board, Sberbank

The project will be implemented in a special economic zone on the most favorable terms, including its free connection to engineering networks. The business plan of the project is being designed in compliance with order No. 75 the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Russian Federation issued on March 23, 2006.

The total area of the facility will exceed 55,000 square meters. The data center will comprise seven modules, each accommodating 500 19-inch 48 unit racks. Each rack will have 12 to 15kW of power. The cutting-edge technical solutions of the project ensure the best utilization efficiency of the facility, which is scheduled to have the annual Power Utilization Efficiency rate ranging between 1.1 and 1.4.

Sberbank, the Government of Saratov Region, and PJSC Rosseti signed a memorandum of intent to build the bank's regional data center in Saratov Region in December 2020.
