(Alliance News) - Prysmian Group Spa announced Friday that it has won two orders worth a total of about EUR1.8 billion awarded by Dutch transmission system operator TenneT for two power grid connection projects, IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek 1, which will connect the two future offshore wind farms located in the Dutch part of the North Sea to the province of Zeeland, located in the southwestern part of the Netherlands.

These orders, the company explains, increase the total value of Prysmian's order book to approximately EUR8.5 billion.

The signing ceremony will take place on March 7, 2023 in the presence of Prysmian and Tennet.

Prysmian Group will be responsible for the design, engineering, production, installation, testing, and commissioning of two 525-kV high-voltage direct current submarine and terrestrial cable systems, including fiber optic cables, and all related accessories for the IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek 1 offshore wind farms, with a total capacity of 4 GW.

IJmuiden Ver Alpha is an offshore power grid connection system about 176 kilometers long of which about 164 kilometers offshore, while Nederwiek 1 has a total length of about 217 kilometers of which 208 kilometers offshore.

The first link is scheduled for delivery in 2029 and the second in 2030.

The submarine cables will be manufactured at Prysmian Group's centers of excellence in Pikkala - Finland - and Arco Felice, Italy, while the land cables will be made in Gron, France.

The offshore laying operations will be carried out with the Group's own cable-laying vessels, in cooperation with DEME Group, a global provider of solutions in the offshore renewable energy sector.

"We are proud to participate in this strategic project that confirms Prysmian's role as a reliable partner in support of the Dutch 'Routekaart 2030' plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve the nation's carbon neutrality goals. This innovative 525 kV high-voltage DC technology of ours underscores Prysmian's ongoing commitment to the energy transition and enables our customers to further reduce the cost of offshore wind while minimizing its environmental impact," said Hakan Ozmen, EVP Projects BU of Prysmian Group.

Tim Meyerjürgens, COO of TenneT, added, "We are proud to have developed this new cable system, and our qualification program has shown that Prysmian is well on its way to this new offshore connection standard. By building the world's first 525 kV HVDC XLPE cable systems to connect 2 GW projects, we are jointly reconfirming our position at the forefront of offshore grid development and our commitment to realize our shared ambition of turning the North Sea into Europe's green powerhouse."

Prysmian Group on Thursday closed flat at EUR36.39 per share.
