Rosseti FGC UES converts Vladivostok and Khabarovsk power supply centers to remote control

11/16/2021

The work has been done jointly by Rosseti FGC UES and the System Operator (SO UES JSC). Remote control of equipment has been deployed at Vladivostok's 220 kV Patroclus and Khabarovsk's 220 kV RC substations.

The project will considerably cut down the scheduled switchover time, minimize the risk of human error, and improve the substations' general reliability. By now, technologies of the kind have been implemented at 44 utilities of Rosseti Group.

Remote control is being implemented at next-generation facilities featuring digital communications and automated process control systems. Telemechanic devices with most advanced domestic software have been put in gear at the substations to get this project going. Supervisors of Rosseti FGC UES and the System Operator can remotely control the operation of the equipment.

The Patroclus 126 MVA substation is a link of the Vladivostok 220 kV energy ring and plays its part in the supply of power to the south of the agglomeration. Its consumers are, among others, residents of Ulysses and Patroclus bays and Russky island, including college buildings and campuses of the Far Eastern Federal University. This is the third power center in Vladivostok where these technologies have been implemented.

The RC 220 kV substation, with 376 MVA capacity, is one of the power centers of the Khabarovsk Territory's capital. Its reliable operation is essential for the delivery of power to Khabarovsk's key infrastructure, industrial and social facilities, including the international airport, the city's water utility, the oil refinery, the Federal Cardiology Center, Regional Clinical Hospital No. 1, as well as the stability of power transit to the southern regions of the area. Previously, remote control was implemented at the Amur 220 kV substation in Khabarovsk.

Creation of highly reliable, low-maintenance substations is a digitalization priority for the Unified National Power Grid (UNPG). Plans are made to switch three more power facilities of the macro-region to the new pattern by the end of 2021, including one of the biggest backbone substations in Primorie: 500 kV Lozovaya.
