Wayve was named a recipient of the CLEPA Innovation Award 2023 for pioneering AV2.0, a new approach to self-driving using embodied AI software that gives vehicles the intelligence to drive anywhere.

The CLEPA Innovation Awards celebrate cutting-edge technologies developed by businesses in the automotive supply chain.

Wayve's vision is to reimagine autonomous mobility with embodied intelligence, ushering in a new era of transport technology and creating a smarter, safer, and more intelligent world.

Self-driving technology developer Wayve has been announced as a winner of the CLEPA Innovation Award 2023 for pioneering AV2.0, a new approach to self-driving using embodied AI software, which uses end-to-end AI and data to give vehicles the intelligence to drive anywhere.

The European Association of Automotive Suppliers (CLEPA) is an industry body that celebrates cutting-edge technologies and recognises the outstanding achievements of the European automotive supply industry with its Innovation Awards 2023. This year's Awards is focused on the latest technological solutions towards the Green and Digital twin transition, mirroring the industry's shifting landscape, focusing on the Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV).

Wayve's AV2.0 solution uses deep learning to solve automated driving, eliminating the need for expensive, complex sensor stacks, high-definition maps, and rules-based systems. Wayve's AI Driver software learns how to drive using data and can apply that knowledge - or generalise its driving AI - to new situations and vehicle types without re-engineering. Wayve's flexible, scalable solution can help automakers and fleet operators bring a range of driving automation levels, including advanced ADAS and fully automated features, to customers sooner.

Unlocking the opportunities presented by self-driving vehicles would not be possible without the automotive industry pushing the boundaries of technological innovation.

Sarah Gates, Director of Public Policy at Wayve

The uptake of automated vehicle (AV) technology has the potential to enable greater access to safer, smarter, and more sustainable forms of transportation. It is estimated that human error is involved in 95% of all road traffic accidents in the EU. AVs can significantly reduce these figures and improve road safety while reducing traffic congestion and emissions of greenhouse gases by 10%. This aligns with the UK and EU's net zero ambitions and contributes to long-term economic growth - for instance, creating jobs and developing profits of up to EUR620 billion by 2025 for the EU automotive industry.

Sarah Gates, Director of Public Policy at Wayve, said: 'Unlocking the opportunities presented by self-driving vehicles would not be possible without the automotive industry pushing the boundaries of technological innovation. It is an honour to be recognized as innovators by CLEPA as we leverage AI to build and safely deploy self-driving technology globally.'

Wayve is currently showcasing the promise of its AV2.0 approach through daily testing on London roads with electric cars and light commercial vans, which it tests with expert safety operators behind the wheel. Earlier this year, Wayve launched Europe's largest last-mile autonomous grocery delivery trial with Asda, a leading UK online supermarket. This trial is helping the company optimise its technology for use in sectors ranging from last-mile delivery, ride-hail, public transit, and consumer vehicles.

About Wayve

Wayve is on a mission to reimagine autonomous mobility through embodied intelligence. Founded in 2017, Wayve is made up of a global team of experts in machine learning and robotics from top organisations around the world. We were the first to deploy autonomous vehicles on public roads with end-to-end deep learning, pioneering the AI software, lean hardware, and fleet learning platform for AV2.0: a next-generation autonomous driving system that can quickly and safely adapt to new driving domains anywhere in the world.

Wayve has raised over $258M and is backed by Eclipse Ventures, D1 Capital Partners, Baillie Gifford, Moore Strategic Ventures, Balderton Capital, Virgin, and Ocado Group. The team is based in London and California, with a fleet of vehicles testing in cities across the UK. Wayve aims to be the first to deploy autonomy in 100 cities. To learn more, visit www.wayve.ai.
