ADIF Alta Velocidad (AV) - Spain's high speed rail network manager - and the Red Eléctrica Group have maintained close collaboration for years. In 2014, Reintel was the awardee of the contract for the assignment of the rights to use, manage and operate ADIF's dark fibre optic network.

ADIF AV and Reintel have reached an agreement whereby the rail infrastructure manager will operate its fibre optic network not assigned to Reintel, specifically those fibre optic cable and line sections commissioned since 2014.

For its part, Reintel maintains the rights to use and manage ADIF's dark fibre optic network (around 16,000 km of fibre optic cable) pursuant to the contract signed by both entities 6 years ago.

ADIF AV is amidst the design of a new strategy to determine how to best maximise its fibre-optic assets in the field of telecommunications, for which it will resume conversations with telecommunications operators and other players in the market, in order to analyse their needs and reach potential commercial agreements..

Both companies want to play a leading role in the design, implementation and operation of Spain's support infrastructure aimed at providing a communications service network based on 5G technology and in turn contribute to the country's digitalisation policy, both in urban environments and in the sparsely populated areas of Spain
