Reliance Industries Ltd. said Friday that its second-quarter net profit and sales rose from a year earlier and that the coronavirus pandemic affected its operations and revenue but it wasn't significant during the period.

The Indian conglomerate said that net profit for the quarter ended Sept. 30 rose to 136.8 billion Indian rupees ($1.83 billion) from INR95.67 billion a year earlier. That beat the estimate of INR139.35 billion from a poll of analysts by S&P Global Market Intelligence.

Second-quarter revenue increased to INR1.741 billion from INR1.162 trillion a year earlier.

"The outbreak of coronavirus pandemic globally and in India is causing significant disturbance and slowdown of economic activity," it said, adding that "during the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2021, there is no significant impact on the operations of the group."
