Restaurant Brands International Inc.'s Burger King chain will run a trial of reusable food containers at some restaurants in three cities next year, the company said Thursday.

Some locations in New York, Portland, Ore. and Tokyo, will offer food packaged in reusable containers made by TerraCycle Inc. Customers who choose the containers will pay a deposit, which will be refunded if they return the containers later. Returned containers and cups will be cleaned and reused.

Burger King is aiming for all of its packaging for customers to come from renewable, recycled or certified sources by 2025, Restaurant Brands said.
