RTL Group SA said Thursday that revenue for the third quarter fell against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic's effects, although trends in TV advertising revenue showed signs of improvement.

The Luxembourg-based media company said quarterly revenue fell to 1.40 billion euros ($1.65 billion) from EUR1.42 billion a year earlier.

"Following a strong decline in the second quarter of 2020, TV advertising revenue across RTL Group decreased by only 2.1% in the third quarter compared to our previous guidance of around minus 10%," said Chief Executive Thomas Rabe.

"We also expect to propose a dividend for 2020, in line with our stated dividend policy," Mr. Rabe added.

RTL Group said it expects 2020 revenue of about EUR5.8 billion and adjusted earnings before interest, taxes and amortization of around EUR720 million. The company uses adjusted Ebita to represent a recurring operating result excluding significant special items.

In August, the company said it wasn't able to provide new guidance, only that it was expecting revenue and adjusted Ebita to be significantly below that in 2019 and other recent years.
