Mr. Venter has over 25 years of experience in mining operations internationally and will join Sierra Rutile on 1 August 2015 from Norilsk Nickel, where he served as Chief Executive Officer of the Australian operations.
Prior to this, he held senior management positions at Norilsk Nickel operations in Africa. In this role Mr. Venter was responsible for a US$1.2 billion portfolio employing a workforce of
4,000 people, including overseeing operations at the Tati Nickel mine, one of the largest operations of its kind globally, and the Nkomati Nickel Mine joint venture with African Rainbow Minerals. Prior to Norilsk Nickel Africa, Mr. Venter held senior operating management positions with Anglo Platinum.

Sierra Rutile produces titanium feedstock industrial minerals (primarily rutile, with some associated ilmenite), as well as smaller quantities of zircon. Sierra Rutile's mine, located in the south west of Sierra Leone, is one of the largest natural rutile deposits in the world, with a JORC-Compliant Mineral Resource for measured, indicated and inferred resources for the Sierra Rutile mine of over 910 million tonnes (as at 30 September 2013).
