Singapore, 3 February 2017- Eighty broadcasters gathered for a Lunar New Year 'Live' Special on 1 February, to introduce RINGS LIVE, an interactive broadcasting mobile application jointly developed by Chinese Media Group of Singapore Press Holdings ('SPH'), RINGS.TV Pte Ltd ('RINGS.TV ') and mm2 Asia Ltd. ('mm2 Asia').

SPH, RINGS.TV and mm2 Asia signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 22 November 2016 to collaborate exclusively with one another to rebrand, re-design and market a live and on-demand video application in Singapore ('Livestream App').

Under this collaboration, RINGS.TV's Livestream App has been recently renamed RINGS LIVE, with DJs from SPH Radio station UFM100.3 and about 80 broadcasters injecting new content and programmes on the platform. Coming from all walks of life with different talent and skills, the broadcasters are now doing more than 100 hours of live broadcast per week. The array of livestream programmes include music, food, cooking, pets and animals, radio broadcast, parenting, counselling, travel and more! RINGS LIVE also features live coverages of various events and Getai performances.

Mr Anthony Tan, Deputy CEO of SPH, said, 'Through our collaboration with Rings.TV and mm2 Asia, SPH is able to accelerate the development of a livestreaming platform. Online video content is now a main source of news and entertainment for people. The timeliness and interactivity of live videos has propelled its growing popularity amongst online audience. We will continue to proactively grow the livestreaming platform to deliver more exciting content to our audience.'

UFM100.3 DJs had previously experimented live streaming on Facebook Live in 2016 and piqued their audience's interest with a variety of content and spontaneous interaction during their live broadcasts. The live broadcasts yielded positive feedback from the station's listeners and created a buzz in the Singapore radio broadcast industry. They have since progressed to the RINGS LIVE platform, where they are able to extend their content to a wider audience.

Ms Carine Ang, Programme Director of UFM100.3, said, 'RINGS LIVE provides a new platform for our radio DJs to showcase their lesser-known talents, and we certainly hope to create more awareness for our radio station through this initiative. Many business partners are also excited about the launch of this broadcasting platform and we are in the process of customising and developing this new product to better meet their requirements. We are confident that we can contribute to more successful and diversified campaigns for our partners.'

The 80 broadcasting channels are owned by individual broadcasters, with UFM100.3 radio DJs leading the way:

  • Jing Yun brings viewers through her lessons on Ukulele and hosts guest counsellors Hanxi & Feng Ling and other renowned personalities on her programme.
  • Wen Hong takes viewers through movies - his favourites, his views and his life.
  • Li Mei's comedic content has grossed the most number of viewership thus far.
  • Xiao Zhu has rallied almost everyone from her family to be part of RINGS LIVE!
  • Wei Long shares lifestyle tips on looking good.
  • Anna the healthcare and food guru of all cuisines shares her love for food and life with her viewers.
  • Yu Ling unveils her baking talent through her step-by-step baking demonstrations.
  • Xin Ying has won hearts of many with her sweet vocals, most viewers cannot miss this songbird!
  • Cheng Yao with his book reviews during his late night radio show, exchanging opinions with viewers
  • TP showcases his peculiar cooking methods, and takes on real-time song dedications online and even sings them!
More on the list are UFM100.3 Weekend DJs Guo Hao, Quan Bin, Jing He, Zhang Ying and former DJ Yan Wei Xiao Er. Besides taking up the role as broadcasters on RINGS LIVE, UFM100.3 DJs have doubled up as a manager to their line of other broadcasters, just like how any other artiste manager looks after their artistes.

The Talents
Among the pool of talented broadcasters, the genre that has garnered most viewers' interest is music. The live interactivity allows real-time song dedications where these local music talents will then perform the song live. As a form of appreciation, viewers can purchase in-app gifts to reward the broadcasters, similar to that of a tipping culture commonly practised in music pubs. Local music talents could also make use of the mobile application to showcase their originals, promoting local music. As all music performances are put together live and unedited, it showcases the solid fundamentals of the performing individual.

Ruth Kueo, a budding local music talent who has released several albums, is known to many who are familiar with the scene. Ruth is the composer and singer of UFM100.3's station jingle. Also an active social media user, Ruth has brought over her following onto RINGS LIVE. Viewers who were newly introduced to her via the broadcast stream were all captivated by her beautiful singing voice. There is also local singer Jin An, who composes her own songs. With both local music talents attracting many fans, there is friendly competition among broadcasters in the same genre.

There are other music talents like Cajon player Arthur Choo, ONE BOY BAND, local independent singers Irwin, Nat, Tiffany, Yingying, Wilson & Mint, Yongxi, Guo Rong, and local singing bands CurryPop, 闲杂人等.

Promising new talent
Some newly recruited broadcasters have earned themselves a great following over a short span of time. These broadcasters share topics close to their hearts - from food, pets, music to crafts and even their professions! Top broadcasters on RINGS LIVE include Food blogger AhShoh.SG, Masked-Chef Richard, The Jo,Rei,Mei Family, Pet Advocates Pearly & Derrick, Violin Maestro Guo Shun, Counsellors Han Xi & Feng Ling, Wedding Planner Chan Shy Yeu, stamp carving specialist Jean Toh, award-winning magician Jeremy Pei and makeup artistes trio The Style Atelier.

Beyond Singapore
There are also broadcasters based overseas, namely George from Japan, Lala from Taipei, Keefe from the United Kingdom as well as Das from Australia. The overseas broadcasters stream live weekly where they share interesting tips on living overseas, their different culture as well as great visiting spots. UFM100.3 has also invited Getai Superstar Hao Hao to be part of the broadcasting team and his programme will commence after the Lunar New Year. Recruitment is still on-going and the strength of the broadcasters is set to break the 100 mark very soon.
