Smartoptics Group AS announced that Peru IX and PIT Colombia, two internet exchanges under the same ownership, have upgraded to 400G, becoming among the first to do so in Latin America. The Smartoptics solution was chosen for its flexibility and small data center footprint. Peru IX and PIT Colombia are two internet exchanges under the same management team and with the same commitment to improving internet infrastructure in their respective countries.

Peru IX sought a cost-effective way to interconnect two data centers in Lima with a diverse fiber path. The solution chosen is centered around the Smartoptics DCP-404 muxponder and DCP-1203 transponder paired with an open line system and 400G optics. This ensures high capacity and low latency while maximizing fiber utilization and minimizing rack space requirements.

PIT Colombia also runs the same type of Smartoptics solution in the capital region of Bogota, where the internet exchange has deployed 400ZR+ for high capacity and flexibility over a long distance to interconnect two data centers with link redundancy.
