SPRING, Texas (AP) _ Southwestern Energy Co. (SWN) on Thursday reported third-quarter net income of $450 million.

The Spring, Texas-based company said it had profit of 40 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, came to 32 cents per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of nine analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 30 cents per share.

The independent oil and gas company posted revenue of $4.54 billion in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.99 billion.
