STMicroelectronics: a milestone reached in FD-SOI
Compared with the previous 40-nm process, the 18-nanometer FD-SOI technology with embedded phase-change memory (ePCM) notably improves the performance/power consumption ratio by more than 50%, explains ST.
This next-generation semiconductor technology, co-developed with Samsung Foundry, also enables the use of higher-capacity memories, while raising the level of integration of analog and digital peripherals, the chipmaker points out.
Samples of the first microcontroller in the STM32 family using this new technology are due to be supplied to selected customers in the second half of 2024, before production entry scheduled for the second half of 2025.
