Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Inc. announced it plans to appoint its global banking head, Akihiro Fukutome as new CEO. He is believed to be the company's first leader with outside experience. Fukutome is to be appointed as president, replacing current president Makoto Takashima, who is to become the company's new chair.
The changes are to take effect as of April 1, 2023.
