The Tam Mi community isolation facility, built on a 10-hectare site lent for free by SHKP, was handed over to the government today

The community isolation facility (CIF) in Tam Mi, Yuen Yong, built on a 10-hectare site lent for free by Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited (SHKP), was handed over to the government today. SHKP will give out 20,000 caring kits to CIF occupants and has arranged for golf carts to provide convenience to staff and others at the Tam Mi facility.

HKSAR Chief Executive Carrie Lam today inspected the Tam Mi facility, the sixth CIF constructed with the support of the Central Government, in the company of SHKP Executive Director Adam Kwok. Save for the facility in the Lok Ma Chau Loop, the Tam Mi CIF is the largest among the city's isolation and treatment facilities.

The handover ceremony was attended by Carrie Lam, the Chief Executive; Tan Tieniu, the Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR; John Lee, the Chief Secretary for Administration; Michael Wong, the Secretary for Development; Tang Ping-keung, the Secretary for Security; Sophia Chan, the Secretary for Food and Health; and Yan Jianguo, Chairman of China State Construction International Holdings Limited (China State Construction), the project contractor.

SHKP Chairman and Managing Director Raymond Kwok said: "We are deeply grateful for the Central Government's care and support for Hong Kong in its fight against the pandemic. China State Construction took only a few weeks to build the Tam Mi facility, which truly demonstrates its high efficiency. We are also thankful for the selfless devotion of the mainland medical support team and Hong Kong's medical and healthcare staff. SHKP has been working closely with different sectors to help the government combat the virus and swiftly lent its sites for free to cope with the surge in demand for isolation facilities. We believe that with the concerted efforts of the community, Hong Kong will soon be able to beat the pandemic."

Located on Castle Peak Road, Tam Mi, the approximately 10-hectare CIF will provide more than 2,000 units.

SHKP fully supports the government's anti-pandemic initiatives, lending three sites with an aggregate area of almost 1.7 million square feet. In addition to the Tam Mi site, SHKP offered the former San Tin Shopping City, which is now another CIF. Another parcel of land in San Tin is intended to become a provisional cargo transfer yard to help handle supplies from the mainland.

SHKP also cares about the daily needs of those staying at the CIFs. A total of 20,000 caring kits, prepared by YATA, a subsidiary of SHKP, will be given out in batches to persons under isolation in the Tam Mi and San Tin facilities. A token of love and care from the Group, the packs will contain healthy snacks, instant noodles, cakes, powder drinks, and more.

Since the Tam Mi CIF is spread over a vast area, the Group has arranged the delivery of five golf carts to help with the delivery of supplies and allow staff to swiftly respond to the needs of the occupants. If necessary, the Group will arrange for more golf carts to help the CIF operations.

SmarTone, a subsidiary of SHKP, has also strongly supported the fight against the pandemic. It has provided CIF occupants and frontline healthcare workers with data cards and 5G Wi-Fi routers, allowing them to stay connected with the community and obtain the latest information via a quality network anytime, anywhere.

Earlier, SHKP provided office space at Landmark North and Millennium City 5 for free as venues for community vaccination, hoping to attract more people in the North District and Kwun Tong to get a jab. Also, two of the Group's hotels participated in the Community Isolation Facility Hotel Scheme.
