• The commitment to innovation of both entities will convert part of the port facilities managed by the Consortium into a Living Lab where disruptive technologies from Telefónica Tech's Cybersecurity and Cloud Innovation area will be tested.
  • With this initiative, La Marina is tackling the digital transformation of its energy and water supply service for moored boats.
  • Telefónica Tech will develop in its Cybersecurity & Cloud Centre in La Marina the R&D&i activities for the implementation and management of this service in La Marina.

Valencia, 28 October 2021. Telefónica Tech and the Valencia 2007 Consortium have today formalised the signing of an agreement through which the world's first laboratory dedicated to innovation in cybersecurity applied to the services, systems and devices of the nautical sector will be set up in the port facilities managed by the consortium itself.

This agreement arises as a result of the common interest in turning Valencia, and the La Marina Technology Hub in particular, into a global benchmark for innovation and represents a further step in Telefónica's commitment to the city after inaugurating the Telefónica Tech Cybersecurity & Cloud Centre at the beginning of the year. A space, also located in La Marina, which is focused on research and development of cybersecurity products in the field of IoT and Smart City and whose objective is to innovate and develop solutions and products that allow both companies and administrations to anticipate future challenges.

The Director of Strategy at La Marina de Valencia, José Frasquet, said that "La Marina has become a very important cultural and business hub for the city in recent years". He adds: "There are many actions that we are carrying out at La Marina and one of them is the development of La Marina Living Lab, accredited by the European Network of Living Labs as an umbrella brand for the innovation processes led by La Marina de Valencia and in collaboration with our ecosystem. La Marina Living Lab provides the necessary spaces to create vertical innovation hubs related to the capabilities map of La Marina de Valencia and its three strategic axes: nautical, gastronomy and leisure, and the knowledge economy. Specifically, this pilot project is very strategic as it represents a breakthrough in innovation and cutting-edge nautical management and positions us as an international benchmark".

Sergio de los Santos, Director of Innovation and Cybersecurity & Cloud Lab at Telefónica Tech, comments that "being able to test our technology in real use cases, solving complex and specific problems thanks to our innovation, is a unique opportunity. The opening of this Living Lab demonstrates the impact of local talent, of our global strategy and reaps the rewards of the investment in these innovation centres".

A new 100% digital water and electricity supply service

Telefónica Tech's Cybersecurity and Cloud Centre in La Marina is to become the operations centre for the development of an innovative electricity and water supply service for boats moored in the docks managed by the Consortium.

This pilot project aims to provide a new service that addresses the challenge of digitising the physical elements that facilitate supply to vessels. The project, which will be fully digital, includes the application of the concepts of "security by design" and "privacy by default" to ensure total service reliability for both users and managers. In addition, this trial brings together different technological platforms from Telefónica and Telefónica Tech that offer a cutting-edge composition of innovative technologies, such as 5G communications, signature and certification platform, proprietary identity system, blockchain and cloud repositories, among others.

Telefónica Tech will use its disruptive and patented technologies to facilitate the usability of the service for people while guaranteeing the security, traceability and digital evidence of operations. Specifically, the new service will be based on the IDoT solution developed by Telefónica Tech's Innovation and Cybersecurity and Cloud Laboratory, which is the sum of different cybersecurity technologies applied to IoT, ranging from identity and the use of digital certificates for the device to ensuring traceability via blockchain or TPM technology (secure platform module technology capable of storing encryption keys) for the secure storage of keys.

This digital transformation process will allow La Marina to offer a highly competitive service that will allow users to have direct control over the service and their consumption from their own mobile phone. From the organisation's point of view, the new service will provide the capacity for analysis and experimentation with the anonymised data obtained corresponding to the consumption made, such as, among others, metrics regarding compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or general improvements in the efficiency of the service.
