Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) through TM Terengganu and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) today signed a service agreement which saw TM providing high speed secured Internet access for the university via Direct Over Metro-E(DOME) service at the speed of 1Gbps.

Latiff Awang, Chairman of the State Government Transformation, Communication and Multimedia Committee of Terengganu, and Professor Dato' Dr. Nor Aieni Haji Mokhtar, Vice Chancellor of UMT.

Commenting on the collaboration, Hamdan said, 'Our integrated, secured and high speed internet connection provided via Metro-E technology will enable UMT to enhance its operational efficiencies thus, enriching the experience enjoyed by the community that it serves. TM is proud to be able to play our role in empowering UMT's network towards better service delivery for the benefit of all - its academicians, workforce and even students, in line with our vision of 'Life and Business Made Easier for a better Malaysia', towards realising TM's aspiration of becoming Malaysia's Convergence Champion.'

TM's Metro Ethernet Service offers Ethernet access and Ethernet based services across a Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) and extending to Wide Area Network (WAN) for high-speed bandwidth scalable from 4Mbps up to 1000Mbps. The Metro Ethernet enables high-speed connection between customer offices in different locations but on the same Local Area Network (LAN), either through the private IP Network or Ethernet network. By subscribing to the DOME service provided by TM, all UMT campuses can leverage on the high bandwidth connectivity and become more cost effective; supported by flexible service scalability to suit the university's needs plus 24/7 network monitoring support with high-end service assurance. This bodes well with the State Government's vision to transform the ICT network of public sector by optimising the use of resources, thus enhancing its services delivery to the public.

Under the five (5) years agreement, TM will be upgrading the capacity of Internet connectivity at UMT main campus in Gong Badak from 120Mbps to 1Gbps to provide the university with faster access hence enhancing the browsing experience for the campus community. TM will also be connecting UMT campus in Gong Badak with its other future campuses namely Bukit Kor in Marang, Kenyir as well as its Centre of Communications in Putrajaya and Cyberjaya. With the enhanced connectivity, the campus administrators, academicians as well as students of UMT will also be able to connect with the other campuses faster and more efficiently. In addition, UMT will be able to monitor its ICT network infrastructure at a centralised location in a secured environment. With the provision of the service, UMT becomes TM's second customer in the East Coast region to be provisioned with 1Gbps access speed, putting UMT a step ahead amongst the institution of higher learning fraternity.
