TERNA: PUBLIC CONSULTATION LAUNCHED WITH THE

MUNICIPALITIES IN THE MARCHE AFFECTED BY ADRIATIC LINK

PROJECT

On 13 and 14 September Terna will present the project to the municipalities of Fano and Cartoceto

in the province of Pesaro and Urbino

Rome, 31 August 2021 - Terna, the national transmission system operator, is organising two days to present the Adriatic Link project to the municipalities of Fano and Cartoceto in the province of Pesaro and Urbino, both of which will be affected by the infrastructure, and start the Public Consultation in order to collect questions, observations and opinions from citizens and stakeholders. The two meetings will be held digitally on the Teams platform and will run from 17.00 to 19.00. The first appointment is on Monday 13 September with the Municipality of Fano, while on Tuesday 14 September it will be the turn of the Municipality of Cartoceto.

Terna will invest more than €1 billion in the Adriatic Link, the new undersea direct current power line linking Abruzzo and the Marche, which is part of the National Grid Development Plan, and will involve about 120 direct and satellite companies. The total length of the connection will be of around 270 kilometres, of which 230 km in undersea cable.

In both the Marche and Abruzzo regions, the feeding of power flows into the National Transmission Grid will be made possible by a new DC to AC converter substation connected to the landing point via a cable line.

For the Marche section of the infrastructure, from the landing point to the converter station, the underground cable will run for about 15 km mainly along existing roads outside built-up areas, leaving the environment and landscape unaltered. At the moment there are two possible locations for the station. One alternative is in the municipality of Fano, the other in an agricultural area in the municipality of Cartoceto, but both are close to the existing electricity station.

The possible solutions for substations and underground cables were defined by Terna with the aim of minimising interference with areas of environmental, natural, landscape and archaeological value, avoiding urban areas and those under development while minimising the length of substation links.

At the moment, the project is in the consultation and design phase. Since December 2020, Terna has organised more than 80 meetings with regional and municipal administrations, local associations and citizens. Thanks to the shared work, the best design alternatives have been

selected and will be the subject of the Public Consultation.

From 14 September to 29 October 2021, administrations, citizens and stakeholders can submit their comments by writing to info.marche-abruzzo@terna.it.These will be part of the documentation that will be sent to the Ministry of Ecological Transition.

Information and updates on the project will be made available on the dedicated page of Terna's website at www.terna.it
