TERNA: MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING SIGNED WITH

THE MUNICIPALITIES OF THE PROVINCE OF REGGIO

EMILIA FOR THE RATIONALISATION OF THE ELECTRICITY GRID

IN THE AREA

    • Investment of € 33 million and involvement of 30 local businesses and 80 workers
  • A more sustainable electricity grid thanks to the demolition of 31 km of overhead power lines and 129 pylons
    • More security, reliability and resilience of the infrastructures present in the area

Rome, 16 April 2021 - a memorandum of understanding for the rationalisation of the 132 kV grid in the Reggio Emilia area was signed today by the mayors of five Municipalities of Emilia-Romagna (Luca Vecchi, Mayor of Reggio Emilia; Francesco Monica, Mayor of Castelnovo di Sotto; Luigi Bellaria, Mayor of Cadelbosco di Sopra; Emanuele Cavallaro, Mayor of Rubiera; Carlo Perucchetti, Mayor of Sant'Ilario d'Enza) and by Terna's manager of administrative processes, Adel Motawi.

The project, for which authorisation is about to be requested and for which a € 33 million investment is planned, is one of the main works scheduled by Terna in Emilia-Romagna, where on the basis of the 2021-2025 Industrial Plan over the next 5 years the company will invest approximately € 300 million for the development and resilience of the electricity grid. Once it is completed, the work will improve the security and reliability of the electricity system of the area and will make it possible to connect the new primary cabin of Mancasale owned by E-distribuzione.

With the construction of approximately 14 km of new overhead power lines and 25 km in underground cable, 31 km of old overhead power lines no longer functional to the transmission service and 129 pylons will be demolished, thus freeing up more than 60 hectares of land affected by now obsolete electrical infrastructures. Overall, the project, which will involve in the construction work more than thirty local businesses and 80 between manual workers and specialised technicians, will make it possible to dismantle more than twice the overhead power lines constructed with numerous advantages in terms of reduced impact of the electrical infrastructures on the territory, making the electricity grid more sustainable above all near the urban areas.

The main works of the project consist of the construction of the connections of the 132 kV "Villa Cadè RT - Rubiera RT" power line to the future primary cabin of Mancasale and to the primary cabin of Reggio Nord, the new "Castelnovo di Sotto - Mancasale - North Reggio" connection which will make it possible to decommission the current portion of grid between Castelnovo di Sotto, North Reggio and Reggio Via Gorizia and finally some underground cabling in urban areas.

The signing today is the result of the constant and profitable dialogue between the local administrations, the citizens and Terna, which began in 2018, with the objective of identifying

planning solutions agreed with the community and creating works and infrastructural projects aimed at protecting the landscape to make the electricity system of the area more modern and efficient.
