TORONTO (AP) _ Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS) on Tuesday reported fiscal third-quarter profit of $977.5 million.

The bank, based in Toronto, said it had earnings of 75 cents per share.

The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 82 cents per share.

The bank posted revenue of $7.55 billion in the period. Its revenue net of interest expense was $5.58 billion, which also did not meet Street forecasts.

Bank of Nova Scotia shares have declined 25% since the beginning of the year. The stock has fallen 17% in the last 12 months.
