The Conygar Investment Company ("Conygar") is pleased to announce it has appointed Laurence Henry as Chef Patron at Canal Turn, part of The Island Quarter development in central Nottingham.

The plans for the restaurants include a unique partnership model in which Conygar, developer of the entire £1 billion 36-acre project, retains ownership of the building while Laurence Henry, winner of Masterchef: The Professionals 2018, launches two distinct eating experiences at Canal Turn which opens in Spring 2022.

Currently under construction, Conygar received planning approval for Canal Turn last September. Canal Turn includes a three-storey 20,000 sq.ft. pavilion on the canal waterfront, featuring two restaurants, events space with panoramic views and a large rooftop terrace.

Conygar has also received planning consent for a 702-bed student accommodation scheme, which forms part of its plans for intergenerational living in the redevelopment and is expected to be available for students to occupy at the start of the 2023/24 academic year.

As well as gaining approval for the restaurant and student accommodation, Conygar has announced that InterContinental Hotels Group has agreed terms for a 223-bedroom hotel. This next stage of the development will also include 247 residential rental apartments and 3,000 sqm of flexible serviced office space.

Canal Turn was designed by architects Jestico+Whiles. The interior space has been designed by renowned interior architecture and design studio Macaulay Sinclair, the company behind Dishoom, Hawksmoor, and Caravan.

Robert Ware, CEO of Conygar, said: "We are absolutely delighted that Laurence will be running Canal Turn, we have been working together closely through the planning process and are excited to open the doors early next year. This unique approach means Conygar will retain ownership and operation of the building while Laurence delivers his compelling vision for a destination venue that will add significant value to the project."

About Laurence Henry

Laurence trained at Ashburton Chefs Academy and went on to work in the kitchens of some of the world's most noteworthy chefs including Sat Bains, Gordon Ramsay and Jason Atherton. He has a massive wealth of expertise and experience and has a passion for ways that Asian food can play an integral part in his cuisine, while maintaining simplicity.

Laurence lives in Nottingham, where he worked at Restaurant Sat Bains as sous chef. Aged just 25 at the time of filming MasterChef, Laurence has been interested in food from a young age. He always enjoyed cooking with his mum and dad who are both fantastic cooks. As a student his ambition was to be a doctor like the rest of his family but while doing weekend work at a local restaurant he fell in love with the idea of becoming a chef.
